This cake is American, named after Samuel German who created a type of baking chocolate.
The coconut pecan frosting is the star.

Method
- Heat the oven to 180°C / 160°C fan. Line two 20cm cake tins.
- Beat the butter and sugar, add the eggs, then fold in the flour, cocoa and buttermilk. Bake for 25–30 minutes. Cool.
- Cook the evaporated milk, brown sugar, yolks and butter over a low heat, stirring, for 10 minutes until thick.
- Stir in the coconut and pecans. Cool.
- Sandwich and top the cakes with the coconut mix.
